Hornet, Giant

Armor Class: 4 (Defense: 4, no armor)
Hit Dice: 1D3
Damage: sting 1D3+1 + poison
Saving Throw: Fort 4+, Reflex 4+, Will 6+
Special: Hornet venom is terribly painful. If the character fails a Fortitude save he will suffer a -1 penalty to all actions for 1D6 minutes. If 2 or more saves are failed, the characters will drop unconscious from pain for 1D6 minutes.

Giant hornets are the most ill-tempered insects in the Alder Vale. If disturbed, they will pursue their victims relentlessly for several hundred strides. If a character is being chased, have him make a Reflex save each round to attempt to elude them. Hornets build their nests underground and can often be found in mine, cave or dungeon entrances.

Mantis, Giant

Size: 6-7

Armor Class: 4 (Defense: 4, carapace AP 1)
Hit Dice: 2D6+4
Damage: claw 1D6+2
Saving Throw: Fort 3+, Reflex 4+, Will 5+
Special: If the mantis scores a hit with both its hit dice, it has caught its prey and can automatically deliver a bite for 1D3+1 damage.

These eerie creatures stalk the Skalleren Woods in search of prey. Mantis’ are almost impossible to surprise and incredibly sneaky. They have a Notice and Stealth of 2+.

Mosquito, Giant

Size: 1
Dex: 8
Armor Class: 2 (Defense: 2, no armor)
Hit Dice: 1D3
Damage: bite 1D3 + Blood Drain
Saving Throw: Fort 5+, Reflex 5+, Will 6+
Special: If a giant mosquito rolls a 5+ on its hit die, it has latched onto the character and begins sucking 1D3 hit points of blood per round. It requires a Strength Feat or killing the creature to remove it.

Giant mosquitos inhabit the Fellmarsh and southern parts of the Skalleren Woods. Toads and Bats think them a delicacy, but all other creatures consider them pests.

Damage: bite 1D3 + Blood Drain
Saving Throw: Fort 3+, Reflex 6+, Will 6+
Special: If the tick hits it has latched onto the character and begins sucking 1D3 hit points of blood per round. It requires a Strength Feat or killing the creature to remove it.

These blood-sucking parasites usually found in forest or grasslands. They are ambush predators, dropping from trees or sneaking up on sleeping prey if possible. They have a Stealth of 3+.

Wasp, Giant

Armor Class: 4 (Defense: 4, no armor)
Hit Dice: 1D6
Damage: sting 1D3+1 + poison
Saving Throw: Fort 4+, Reflex 4+, Will 6+
Special: Wasp venom causes the victim to swell up painfully. If a Fortitude save is failed the character will fall unconscious for 1D6 rounds. After that he will be -1 to all rolls for 1D6 hours.

Giant wasps are fierce predators. They generally leave creatures as large as the Kind alone, but have been known to attack shrews or mice if the opportunity arises. Their nests, which they defend vigorously, are constructed out of a paper-like substance and old ruins seem to be a favored place to build a new home.
